There are three kinds of teaching credentials in New York City:
1.Regular License --full time teacher
2.Occasional Per Diem (OD)Certificate --day-to-day substitute teacher
3.Preparatory Provisional Certificate (PPC)--regular assigned substitute
  teacher (full time)

1.New York City Regular License

Step 1:Obtain New York State Certification

Before you can apply for a New York City license,you must process a valid Ne
wYork State Certificate in the subject area.
Requirements:
*Valid baccalaureate degree (New York State may accept bachelors degree as
 from Taiwan)
*Require amount of academic credit for specific area of certification
*Passing scores on all three parts of the NTE Core Battery of the New York
 State Teacher Certification Examination (NYSTCE),whichever examination is
 applicable to the subject area
*Two hours training seminar on Child Abuse Detectiohn
*Either a college-supervised student teaching experience or one full year
 of satisfactory full-time paid teaching experience in area of certification
 (previous teaching experience in Taiwan can be Counted toward this requirem
 entif it is documented)

Step 2:Apply for NYC Regular License

       Bring:
       *Valid NYS Certificate
       *Post Office Money Order for $40.00payable to OPRAL

All applicants must be fingerprinted by the NYC Public School at :
		65Court Street 4th Flool
		Brooklyn,NY 11201
		TEL:718-935-2664
and obtain clearence from both State and Federal levels,a process taking NO
LESS than 14weeks.

Bring:
*Two forms of ID,such as valid U.S.passport,social security card,driver's
 lisence,birth certificate
*Post Office Money Order for $74.00payable to DCIS
*Poat Office Money Order for $10.00payable to NYC Board of Education

Step 3:Receive Certified Provisional Certificate (CPC)
*After an applicant's fingerprints have received clearence,the application
 will be processed and a file number will be given.
*ACPC will be issued which allows a holder to teach on a full-time or per diem
 (day to day)basis in our school system in the meantime.

Step 4:Take the Regular Lisence Examination (Oral)
*When Regular Lisence Examination are announced,the CPC holder will be
 automatically notified to take the oral examination.
*Upon passing the examination,the Regular Lisence will be issued.

Step 5:Become Permanently Appointed
*Minimum requirement:NYC Regular Lisence
*Maximum requirement:Master's degree in an educational related area in five
 years;six credits in Special Education;complete of a course on Human Relati
 ons

2.Occasional Per Diem Cetificate
*Baccalaureate degree
*Must take 6credits in education if not have any credit in education
*Have transcript(s)reviewd at 65Court Street Rm 102,Brooklyn,NY 11201
*File application with Post Office Money Order for $15.00payable to ORPAL
*Be fingerprinted at 65Court Street 4th Floor,Brooklyn,NY 11201,with Post
 Office Money Order for $74.00payable to DCIS
*Receive certificate in the mail with a file number after fingerprints are
 cleared in 14weeks
*Inform district office or school of availability for day-to-day substitute
 teaching at that site

3.Preparatory Provisional Certificate (PPC)
*Baccalaureate degree
*Must be nominated by a school district or high school to demonstrate
 concerntration of credits and eligibolity in the specific subject area,if
 applicable.

If you have any document that need to be translated,just bring them and I'll
tell you what to do.There are certain areas where there is a serious shortage
of teachers,including special education for the speech and hearing impaired,
sight impaired,handicapped.You will be more marketable if you can work in
